Proposed plans for transit’s future

Check this plan out, devised by the Bipartisan Policy Center’s National Transportation Policy Project (NTPP).  I like the suggestion of boiling it down to six core programs with measurable deliverables.

And the Bus Riders Union in Austin, which I may someday join as a regular rider, has some interesting plans as well, including dramatic reductions in fares (or maybe  elimination altogether).  I think there’s something to the elimination of fares, at least for an introductory period on new service or for some core services around dense urban areas.
